PBKS put into bat, lost Priyansh Arya to Jofra Archer in the 3rd over after hitting 11-ball 29. Cooper Connolly and Prabhsimran Singh then added a 59-run stand, posting 65/1 in the powerplay. The partnership was brisk and assured — Connolly particularly fluent with 30 off 14 before Yash Raj Punja dismissed him, getting his second wicket as Prabhsimran tries to go after a widish delivery but failed to connect.

Punjab Kings slowed down in the middle-overs and Shreyas Iyer had to take the onus and help PBKS post 220+, eventually departing for 30 off 27 as Burger did the trick. With three overs remaining, PBKS were at 150/3 and needed a big finish. Marcus Stoinis delivered the biggest finish of his IPL 2026 season. Stoinis bludgeoned an unbeaten 62 off 22 balls, striking at 281.81 — smashing 55 runs in the final 3 overs, including 24 off the last over from Brijesh Sharma. The total: 222/4 — competitive but, as it transpired, not competitive enough.

🎯 Jofra Archer's Critical Over 3: Archer had Arya's outside edge go through where first slip would have been — no slip in place. Archer screamed at his captain. A slip was placed. But Arya edged again, over Jaiswal's head at slip — Jaiswal got fingertips but couldn't catch it. Then, with his 150.1 kmph thunderbolt, Arya mistimed a pull and Burger at mid-on did the rest. The duel: Archer won it ultimately — but at the cost of two dropped edges that could have changed the match.

Arshdeep was the most expensive — 68 from 4 overs, economy 17.00. The three pacers combined for 166/1. Chahal's three wickets kept PBKS alive; their pace bowling in the death ended the unbeaten run.

Donovan Ferreira proved why Rajasthan Royals were keen to have him traded in — he and Dubey added 77 runs off 32 balls for the fifth wicket to turn what looked like a tricky run-chase at one point into a cakewalk.
05
Match Narrative

Toss & Context: Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag finally ended his toss jinx and chose to bowl — a smart call on a surface that historically assists chasing teams at Mullanpur. PBKS made changes with vice-captain Shashank Singh out, calling in Suryansh Shedge. RR made two changes: out-of-form Shimron Hetmyer dropped for Dasun Shanaka, and Ravi Bishnoi out for Yash Raj Punja.

PBKS Powerplay — Arya's 3-Over Blitz: Priyansh Arya hit 11-ball 29 including three sixes before Archer finally trapped him. The 150 kmph thunderbolt — after two edges that went to ground — ended Arya's innings. The powerplay finished at 65/1 with Prabhsimran (26) and Connolly at the crease and a solid platform established.

Middle Overs — Prabhsimran's Anchor: Prabhsimran is PBKS's highest run-scorer this season with 346 runs in eight innings. But against spin, he has 79 runs in 59 balls, striking at 133.89. That spin weakness was exposed tonight — his knock was crucial but below his SR against pace. Connolly's 30 off 14 was sparkling. Iyer's 30 off 27 was understated. By the 15th over: 150/3.

Stoinis's 3-Over Masterclass — Then RR's Death Response: Stoinis's 62 off 22 — including the extraordinary last-over 24 off Brijesh — took PBKS to 222. It felt like enough. It wasn't. Sooryavanshi's 43 off 16 set the tone. Jaiswal's 51 off 27 built the platform. Chahal's three wickets gave PBKS hope. And then Ferreira and Dubey dismantled three world-class death bowlers in 32 balls. 77 runs. Four balls to spare. PBKS beaten. The perfect record gone.

🔑 Turning Point — Over 16: Ferreira's Arshdeep Over

Arshdeep Singh — IPL 2026's best death bowler — came back for his 4th over in the 16th, RR needing 49 off 24. Ferreira smashed him for six, then four, then four in three consecutive deliveries. That single over went for 21 runs. The required rate fell from 12.25 to 9.33 in six balls. Arshdeep conceded 68 from 4 overs tonight — his most expensive spell of IPL 2026 by a significant margin. The turning point was the moment PBKS's best bowler became RR's most profitable over.

Arshdeep, Lockie, Jansen — conceding 166 for 1 in death-over conditions — we need to address that. Stoinis was brilliant in the last three overs for us, but ultimately the bowling let us down. We move on. Fifteen points, still top of the table."
