The first over set the tone. Praful Hinge — who had dismissed Sooryavanshi for a duck in the reverse fixture twelve days ago — bowled the opening over of the match. Sooryavanshi faced five of those six balls: dot, SIX, SIX, SIX, SIX. Four sixes off four consecutive balls. 25 runs off the first over. The stadium erupted. Hinge's humiliation was complete.

What followed was one of the most extraordinary batting performances in IPL history. Sooryavanshi hit a six every third ball of his innings. He dispatched Cummins with equal disdain, launching his first ball from the returning Ashes captain for a straight six. He brought up his fifty in 22 balls. His century came off 36 balls — the third fastest in IPL history. By the time Sakib Hussain's slower ball finally ended his innings (lbw for 103 in the 14th over), Sooryavanshi had hit 12 sixes and 5 fours. He walked off to a standing ovation from the entire Sawai Mansingh Stadium crowd — home and away supporters alike.

SRH needed 229. At the innings break, with the context of PBKS having chased 265 just hours earlier in Delhi, 228 felt eminently chaseable. Travis Head fell first ball to a Jofra Archer jaffa that squared him up (6 off 5, caught behind). But then Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan — two left-handers — turned Jaipur into their personal batting range.

RR went with the part-time off-spin of Parag and Ferreira against the two lefties before bringing in their frontline spinners Bishnoi (11th over) and Jadeja (12th). By then, the damage was done. Abhishek (57 off 29, 11 fours, 1 six) and Kishan (74 off 31, 11 fours, 3 sixes) put on 132 off just 55 balls — the fastest 100+ partnership in this match — and when Kishan fell caught off Donovan Ferreira in the 10th over, SRH needed just 90 off 60 balls at 9 an over. The match was done.

Nitish Kumar Reddy (36 off 18, 3 sixes) and Klaasen (29 off 24) got SRH to the doorstep before both fell late. 🎯 Jofra Archer — Best RR Bowler: Archer took 2 wickets (Travis Head, Ishan Kishan) at an economy of 8.50 — comfortably RR's most economical frontline bowler. His first over produced Head's wicket with a superb Test-match jaffa, and he dismissed Kishan in the 13th over when the match was already effectively done. The context of 229 being chased on this pitch, with this SRH lineup, was simply too much for any RR bowling combination.

07
Match Narrative

Toss & Context: Pat Cummins won the toss — SRH's first toss win of the season (Ishan Kishan had lost all 7 previously). He chose to bowl, setting up SRH to chase with dew expected in the evening. RR played their first home game in Jaipur this season (their first three home games were in Guwahati).

Over 1 — Sooryavanshi's Eruption: Praful Hinge opened the bowling. Sooryavanshi's second ball was a pull for six over backward square leg. Third: whipped over mid-wicket for six. Fourth: launched over long-off for six. Fifth: cleared long-on for six. Four consecutive sixes. 25 runs off the over. Jaipur had never seen anything like it. Hinge began short and kept getting gradually fuller, and Sooryavanshi put everything away — it didn't matter where you pitched it.

Overs 2-13 — Sooryavanshi Carries RR Single-Handed: Sooryavanshi scored his second IPL hundred, getting there off just 36 balls, and struck a six every third ball before his dismissal. The rest of RR's batting struggled around him — he made 103 off 37, and his colleagues and extras combined to score 125 off 83. Jurel's 51 was the only other significant contribution before the middle order wilted.

SRH Chase — Kishan & Abhishek Neutralise Everything: Jofra Archer removed Travis Head in the first over. Then the two left-handers took over. RR went with the part-time offspin of Parag and Ferreira before either of their frontline spinners. By the time Ravi Bishnoi and Jadeja came on in the 11th and 12th overs, the match was nearly done. The 132-run second-wicket partnership off 55 balls was the decisive moment. Cummins' economical 4-over spell — including a 3-run 8th over — provided the perfect bookend to a triumphant return match.

🔑 Turning Point — Over 7 of the Chase: RR brought on Riyan Parag's part-time off-spin against Kishan and Abhishek. Both left-handers immediately attacked, with Kishan hitting Parag for 12 in that over. This decision — delaying Bishnoi and Jadeja until the 11th-12th overs — conceded the match in real time. By over 10, SRH needed 90 off 60 — comfortable. By over 13, it was 60 off 42 — done.

📊 SRH's Rise: SRH jump to 3rd place on 10 points — level with RCB and RR. Four consecutive wins. Pat Cummins is back. The NRR has improved dramatically with back-to-back huge chases. RR drop to 4th — still on 10 points but with 3 losses in a row. Their middle order remains a concern. The top 4 race with RCB, SRH and RR all on 10 points is now the tightest in IPL 2026.
